Following Mittal Steel President Lakshmi Mittal's call in September for the Chinese central government to ease the rules on foreign investment in China, Baosteel Chairwoman Xie Qihua has indicated that China may ease foreign investment regulations soon - media sources have reported. Speaking at the International Iron and Steel Institute conference held in Buenos Aires, Argentine on October 01-04, 2006, the Baosteel chairwoman is quoted as saying that China now requires the easing of the restrictions on foreign ownership of steel companies in order to accelerate the consolidation of the industry. Ms. Xie is an important person in China's steel industry. She is not only the chairwoman of the largest state-owned Chinese mill but also the chairwoman of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA).
