Hubei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel Co. (WISCO) has announced that it is now able to produce 150,000 mt per year of HiB steel for transformer production, making it the biggest supplier of high grade HiB steel in both the domestic and international markets.

Previously, WISCO had developed steel used in 220kV transformers, while in recent years it developed 23RK085, 27RK095 and 30RK100 HiB steels for use in 500kV transformers, thereby reducing costs for Chinese transformer producers and so also contributing to cost reductions in the power supply sector.
