Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil (VSB), a JV between France’s Vallourec and Japan’s Sumitomo Metals, will build a terminal for the stocking, loading and unloading of iron ore at its Jeceaba steel complex, in the city of same name, according to media reports.
VSB asked local environment authority Semad a preliminary license as well as a installation license, so it could proceed with the building of the terminal.
Semad said it already granted VSB a favorable assent to the building of the terminal. The local authority said the terminal will be built in a 11,500-square-meter area, and will have capacity to stock 100,000 mt of iron ore. According to Semad, VSB’s goal is to maximize logistics.
The new terminal is expected to transport up to 21,000 mt of iron ore per day.
