Voestalpine’s Texas HBI facility reopens

According to a press release, Voestalpine’s Texas HBI plant has resumed full operations following a brief shutdown due to flooding in the Corpus Christi area from Hurricane Harvey.

The company said the $1 billion plant will continue with annual production goals of 2 million mt of HBI (also known as sponge iron) in 2017. Financial earnings are not expected to change significantly due to the shutdown.
