A group of US seamless stainless steel tube producers have formed a new organization to deal with the growing number of stainless steel tubing imports from China.

The new group, known as the Seamless Stainless Tube Trade Action Committee (SSTTAC), will develop strategies to address the import situation and will monitor any possible violations of US or World Trade Organization antidumping and subsidy laws involving China. The group says Chinese stainless tube imports have surged dramatically in recent years, increasing from 4,657 tons in 2004, to 6,205 tons in 2005, and to 11,543 tons in 2006.

Initial members of the SSTTAC include Handy & Harman, Salem Tube, Superior Tube and Sandvik.
