Global news sources have reported that US Steel Kosice, the Slovak unit of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based US Steel, has confirmed that investors have expressed interest and made offers on the steel mill. US Steel is said to be considering the offers for the Slovakia plant, less than a year after it sold off its Serbian steel mill for a symbolic $1.

US Steel's European operations have dampened the company's earnings for the past few years. US Steel acquired the Kosice plant for $475 million in 2000 and the mill and its affiliates employ over 11,000 workers. It is Slovakia's largest private corporate employer.
