US steel mill shipments register slight decline in February

As per data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), US steel mill shipments for February 2008 showed a 0.8 percent decrease from the previous month.

In February 2008, US steel mills shipped 9.174 million net tons, a 0.8 percent decrease from the 9.246 million net tons shipped in January 2008. However, when compared to the same month of the previous year, February 2008 shipments were up 9.9 percent from the 8.350 million net tons shipped in February 2007. 

According to year-to-date shipment figures from a year-to-year comparison, the following has been noted by the AISI: service centers and distributors, up 8.2 percent; automotive, up 3.1 percent; construction and contractors' products, up 4.5 percent; and oil and gas, up 5.3 percent.
