US rebar imports up 3.1 percent in May

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 114,537 mt in May 2020, up 3.1 percent from April but down 15.2 percent from May 2019 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $53.6 million in May 2020, compared to $53.7 million in the previous month and $68.8 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in May, with 69,350 mt, compared to 45,827 mt in April and 18,772 mt in May 2019. Other top sources of imported rebar in May include Mexico, with 23,817 mt; Spain, with 6,874 mt; Canada, with 5,003 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 4,141 mt.
