US rebar imports down 38.8 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 76,844 mt in March 2023, down 38.8 percent from February and down 47.8 percent from March 2022 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $53.6 million in March 2023, compared to $89.9 million in February and $126.6 million in March 2022.

The US imported the most rebar from Algeria in March, with 39,980 mt, compared to 50,522 mt in February and 58,519 mt in March 2022. Other top sources of imported rebar in March include Canada, with 13,245 mt; Vietnam, with 10,586 mt; Mexico, 8,595 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 4,204 mt.
