US rebar imports down 25.8 percent in December

According to final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 41,379 mt in December 2019, down 25.8 percent from November but up 21.2 percent from December 2018 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $22.6 million in December 2019, compared to $26.7 million in the previous month and $19.0 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most rebar from Spain in December, with 17,668 mt, compared to 4,993 mt in November and 1,038 mt in December 2018. Other top sources of imported rebar in December include Mexico, with 17,511 mt; Canada, with 4,328 mt; and Korea, with 1,183 mt.
