The US will cancel the sanctions which were to be imposed on Turkey as announced early this week, as Turkey and the US have now agreed on a ceasefire in northern Syria. Accordingly, the US will not double steel tariffs on imports of Turkish steel.

On Monday, October 14, US President Trump announced that he would impose sanctions on Turkey including doubling of the steel tariffs and sanctions against current and former officials of the Turkish government as well. However, the executive order was not signed and the sanctions did not come into force.

In August 2018, the US had increased the Section 232 tariffs for Turkish steel products from 25 percent to 50 percent, before reducing them to 25 percent again in May this year.
