US iron and steel scrap exports up 21.4 percent in October

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,567,755 mt in October 2019, a 21.4 percent increase month-on-month but a 3.4 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in October with 335,681 mt, up 20.2 percent month-on-month and up 45.6 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in October 2019 include: Mexico, with 190,243 mt; Taiwan, with 184,090 mt; Malaysia, with 146,177 mt; and Korea, with 110,742 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $431.1 million in October 2019, a 15.4 percent increase compared to September but an 18.1 percent decrease compared to October 2018.
