US iron and steel scrap exports up 19.3 percent in February

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,180,142 mt in February 2019, a 19.3 percent increase month-on-month but a 21.5 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in February with 297,946 mt, up 91.6 percent month-on-month but down 8.2 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in February 2019 include: Korea, with 207,578 mt; Taiwan, with 131,057 mt; Canada, with 101,263 mt; and Mexico, with 85,817 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $366.8 million in February 2019, a 15.5 percent increase compared to January and a 33.3 percent decrease compared to February 2018.
