US iron and steel scrap exports up 10.4 percent in August

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,767,833 mt in August 2019, a 10.4 percent increase month-on-month and a 16.4 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in August with 346,731 mt, up 6.7 percent month-on-month and up 22.7 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in August 2019 include: Vietnam, with 343,705 mt; Canada, with 227,552 mt; Taiwan, with 177,636 mt; and Mexico, with 107,269 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $520.6 million in August 2019, a 6.7 percent increase compared to July but a 2.2 percent decrease compared to August 2018.
