US iron and steel scrap exports drop 9.3 percent in January

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,123,539 mt in January 2018, a 9.3 percent decrease month-on-month but a 14.9 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in January with 308,266 mt, which decreased 16.4 percent month-on-month and increased 275.9 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in January 2018 include: Taiwan, with 128,569 mt; China, with 127,700 mt; Mexico, with 127,476 mt; and India, with 78,091 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $372.7 million in January 2018, an 11.7 percent decrease compared to December and a 13.4 percent increase compared to January 2017.
