US iron and steel scrap exports drop 11.4 percent in September

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,383,239 mt in September 2018, an 11.4 percent decrease month-on-month but a 3.5 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in September with 351,806 mt, up 17.4 percent month-on-month but down 41.3 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in September 2018 include: Vietnam, with 177,025 mt; Canada, with 172,248 mt; Taiwan, with 131,931 mt; and Korea, with 125,104 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $451.4 million in September 2018, a 17.6 percent decrease compared to August and a 2.6 percent decrease compared to September 2017.
