US iron and steel scrap exports down 26.9 percent in September

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,291,555 mt in September 2019, a 26.9 percent decrease month-on-month and a 5.1 percent decrease year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in September with 279,220 mt, down 19.5 percent month-on-month and down 20.6 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in September 2019 include: Mexico, with 172,072 mt; Bangladesh, with 169,849 mt; Canada, with 159,865 mt; and Taiwan, with 116,279 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $373.7 million in September 2019, a 28.2 percent decrease compared to August and a 21.3 percent decrease compared to September 2018.
