US iron and steel scrap exports double in August

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports doubled in August, with a total of 1,755,068 mt—a 101.6 percent increase month-on-month and an 80.9 percent decrease year-on-year.
 
Mexico was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in August with 649,668 mt, which is up 330.3 percent month-on-month and up 839.1 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in August include: Turkey, with 331,627 mt; Taiwan, with 154,316 mt; Bangladesh, with 118,506 mt; and China, with 88,434 mt.
 
In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $348.8 million in August, a 36.4 percent increase compared to July and a 14.9 percent increase compared to August 2015.
