US HRC imports drop 7.3 percent in October

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of hot rolled sheets totaled 199,471 mt in October, down 7.3 percent from September and down 36.4 percent from October 2015 levels. By value, HRC imports totaled $111.8 million in October 2016, compared to $117.6 million in the previous month and $136.8 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most HRC from Canada in October, with 65,842 mt, compared to 49,903 mt in September and 55,203 mt in October 2015. Other top sources of imported HRC in October include Turkey, with 48,247 mt; the Netherlands, with 21,814 mt; Japan, with 17,512 mt; and Mexico, with 13,243 mt.
