US HRC imports down 25.5 percent in August

According to preliminary census data released by the US Department of Commerce, the US imported 224,135 mt of hot rolled coil (HRC) in August, a 25.5 percent decrease from July and a 35.3 percent decrease from August 2015.
 
The top sources for imported HRC in August were Canada, with 84,548 mt (up 13.8 percent month-on-month and up 18.8 percent year-on-year); Korea, with 63,881 mt (down 46.5 percent month-on-month and down 18.4 percent year-on-year); and Japan, with 15,520 mt (down 67.9 percent month-on-month and down 60.5 percent year-on-year).
