US HRC exports down 4.9 percent in January

According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of hot rolled sheets totaled 50,432 mt in January 2020, down 4.9 percent from December but up 15.7 percent from January 2019 levels. By value, HRC exports totaled $42.3 million in January, compared to $42.5 million in the previous month and $42.3 million the same month last year.

The US shipped the most HRC to Mexico in January with 34,510 mt, compared to 43,041 mt in December and 29,812 mt in January 2019. Other top destinations included Canada, with 15,659 mt; and Australia, with 4,063 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 mt or more) for US HRC exports in January.
