US domestic raw steel production falls slightly week-on-week

According to the most recent data from the American Iron and Steel Industry (AISI) for the week ending January 30, 2016, domestic raw steel production was 1,657,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 70.7 percent. Production was 1,807,000 net tons in the week ending January 30, 2015 while the capability utilization then was 76.4 percent. The current week production represents a 8.3 percent decrease from the same period in the previous year. Production for the week ending January 30, 2016 is down 0.8 percent from the previous week ending January 23, 2016 when production was 1,670,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 69.8 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 30, 2016 was 8,013,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 67.3 percent. That is down 11.2 percent from the 9,026,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.4 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending January 30, 2016 in thousands of net tons: North East: 206; Great Lakes: 625; Midwest: 190; Southern: 563 and Western: 73 for a total of 1657.
