Ukrainian government refutes the hike in export duty on scrap

On 25 January 2006, the Ministry of Industrial Policy of the Ukraine refuted the news in the media that the Ministry intended to increase export duty on scrap metal from Euro 30 to Euro 50 per ton. The Ministry announced that the news does not reflect reality. In fact, the Ministry of Industrial Policy of the Ukraine reported that the ministry is working on reducing the export duty on scrap metal in line with the requirements set by the WTO. Moreover, the European Union also indicated that it would increase Ukraine's quota levels by as much as 43 percent if the country lowers its scrap export duty.
