Ukraine’s DEMZ quadruples steel smelting volume in January

Ukraine's Donetsk Electrometallurgical Plant (DEMZ) has announced that in January this year its steel smelting volume increased by four times compared to the same period last year to 88,600 mt.

Accordingly, DEMZ has continued to increase its hot rolled steel product output both from its own steel, as well as from steel bars supplied by Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works, within the framework of DEMZ's strategic partnership with Russian steel producer Mechel of which Chelyabinsk Iron and Steel Works in a subsidiary. In January 2011, DEMZ shipped about 10,000 mt of high-quality rolled products of alloy steel to European and US markets.

In February 2011, DEMZ plans to smelt more than 82,500 mt of steel and to produce about 15,000 mt of commercial grade rolled steel products.
