Turkish mills favor removal of VAT on rebar prices instead of lower import duties

Regarding the plans of Turkey’s Ministry of Economy to decrease import duties on rebar in order to control the increases in rebar prices seen in the Turkish domestic market, Fuat Tosyalı, chairman of the Turkish Steel Producers' Association’s (TCUD), has stated that domestic producers are opposed to the decision and has proposed the removal of VAT on rebar prices, according to the Turkish daily Dunya.
 
Mr. Tosyalı also stated that Turkish steel producers are calling on the Turkish Competition Authority to investigate whether there has been any manipulation of prices in the domestic rebar market.
