Turkey’s billet imports up 2.4 percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume increased by 85 percent month on month to 121,786 mt, down by 14.3 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $47.9 million, up 56.7 percent month on month and down 33.4 percent year on year.

In the January-May period of this year, Turkey's billet import volume amounted to 650,389 mt, rising by 2.4 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 11.8 percent to $282.71 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 350,925 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, down 12.48 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Ukraine which supplied 237,288 mt in the given period.
