In the first 11 months of 2014, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 7.9 percent to 12.37 million mt, while the value of these imports fell 6.6 percent to $10.86 billion, both on year-on-year basis, according to the data released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the given period, Turkey's billet imports totaled 2.6 million mt, down five percent, its slab imports decreased by 21.9 percent to 1.58 million mt, while its flat steel imports totaled 6.06 million mt, down 7.7 percent, long steel imports amounted to 1.35 million mt, up 1.5 percent, and steel pipe imports decreased by 3.5 percent to 394,000 mt, all on year-on-year basis.
On the other hand, in November alone, Turkey's steel imports decreased by 14.2 percent year on year to 1.17 million mt, while the value of these imports totaled $996 million, up 13 percent, both on year-on-year basis. In the given month, Turkey's billet imports increased by 44.2 percent to 170,000 mt, while its slab imports rose by 2.1 percent to 281,000 mt, both year on year. Also in November this year, Turkey's flat steel imports decreased by 8.9 percent to 520,000 mt, its long steel imports moved down by 13.8 percent to 124,000 mt, and steel pipe imports totaled 37,000 mt, up 6.5 percent, all on year-on-year basis.
