Turkey’s steel import volume down 12.5 percent in 2019

In 2019, Turkey’s steel imports decreased by 12.5 percent to 12.68 million mt, while the value of these imports moved down by 19.4 percent to $10.32 billion, both on year-on-year basis, as announced by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).

In the given year, Turkey’s semi-finished steel imports fell by 28.4 percent to 3.4 million mt, while its flat steel imports were down by 0.2 percent to 7.48 million mt, both compared to the previous year. In the same year, Turkey’s long steel imports totaled 1.08 million mt, falling by 17.3 percent year on year. Pipe imports were registered as 386,111 mt in this period, declining 20.6 percent year on year.

Last year, Turkey's steel export volume was equivalent to 155.7 percent of its steel import volume, compared to 137.7 percent in 2018.
