According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in April this year the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports increased by 49.8 percent year on year, totaling $1.86 billion. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in third place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value. In the January-April period of this year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $6.76 billion, increasing by 44.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In April, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 16th among the products with the highest import value, amounted to $265 million in value, falling by 24.2 percent year on year. In the January-April period of this year, the value of Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel was up 12.5 percent to $1.01 billion compared to the same period of 2017.
