According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in August this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.68 billion, increasing by 34.9 percent year on year and down 13.5 percent from July, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 32.5 percent compared to August 2010 and were down 11.9 percent month on month, amounting to $215.15 million.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of 2011 the country's iron and steel imports stood at $13.34 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.72 billion, increasing by 29.7 percent and up 38.6 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
