According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in September this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.92 billion, increasing by 32.3 percent year on year and up 14.1 percent from August, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 28.7 percent compared to September 2010 and were down 1.6 percent month on month, amounting to $211.77 million.
Meanwhile, in the first nine months of 2011 the country's iron and steel imports stood at $15.25 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.9 billion, increasing by 30 percent and up 37.4 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010.
