According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in October this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.4 billion in value, increasing by 26.5 percent year on year and down 3.55 percent over September, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 24.2 percent compared to October 2009 and were down 6.19 percent month on month at $175.06 million.
Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of 2010, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $13.12 billion, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.58 billion, increasing by 42.8 percent and up 29.6 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
