Turkey’s steel bar exports fall 21.62 percent in August over July

According to the data provided by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in August Turkey's total steel bar exports, including rebar, amounted to 544,173 metric tons, decreasing by 58.57 percent year on year and by 21.62 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totalled $250.32 million, plummeting by 84.19 percent compared to August 2008, and down by 19.16 percent over July 2009.

In August, the average export price of Turkish steel bar amounted to $460/mt, up $14/mt or 3.13 percent from July levels, but indicated a dramatic decrease compared to August 2008 levels, i.e., down $745/mt or 61.83 percent from $1,205/mt.

On the other hand, in the first eight months of this year, Turkey's steel bar exports slid 13.6 percent year on year to 6.69 million mt, totalling a value of three billion dollars, down 57.34 percent, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
