According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in October this year Turkey's stainless flat steel imports rose by 9.1 percent compared to the previous month and were up slightly by 0.6 percent compared to October 2011, amounting to 27,725 metric tons. The value of these imports was $69.35 million, increasing by 7.9 percent as compared to September this year and down 13 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of the current year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports amounted to 299,058 metric tons, increasing 1.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011. The value of these imports was $775 million, decreasing by 13.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first 10 months of the year, Turkey's stainless flat steel imports from Taiwan amounted to 71,450 metric tons, increasing by 4.8 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of stainless flat steel imports in the first 10 months of this year was South Korea with 39,017 metric tons, down 6.77 percent compared to the same period of 2011. Germany exported 35,053 mt of stainless flat steel to Turkey in the January-October period of the year, rising by 8.8 percent on year-on-year basis.
