In March this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 6.26 percent year on year to 1.84 million metric tons and remained almost stable compared to February, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $655.6 million, up 38.2 percent year on year and rising by 4.35 percent month on month.
In the first three months of the current year, Turkey's scrap imports amounted to 3.37 million mt, up 26.1 percent, while the value of these imports increased by 59.9 percent to $1.82 billion, both year on year.
In the given period, Turkey imported 990,289 mt of scrap from the US, up 18.82 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of the UK which supplied 840,787 mt in the given period, up 43.35 percent year on year.
