In the January-September period of the current year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 15.6 percent to 14.9 million metric tons on year-on-year basis, while these imports were valued at $4.2 billion with a 45.2 percent increase compared to the same period of last year, according to the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In the January-September period this year, Turkey's scrap imports from EU countries increased by 23.1 percent to 9.4 million mt, its scrap imports from the US fell by four percent to 2.4 million mt, while scrap imports from CIS countries amounted to 1.9 million mt, down 19.3 percent, all on year-on-year basis. In the same period, the share of EU countries in Turkey's total scrap imports was 62.8 percent, the share of the US in Turkey's total scrap imports was 15.9 percent, while CIS countries’ share was 12.7 percent.
