According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in November this year Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $595.1 million in value, decreasing by 2.5 percent year on year and down 27.2 percent over October, while exports of articles of iron or steel declined by 6.2 percent compared to November 2008 and were down 6.09 percent month on month, amounting to a value of $406.8 million.
In the first eleven months of the year, Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $7.1 billion, down 50.9 percent from $14.40 billion in the same period last year, while exports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $4.11 billion, down 23.1 percent year on year from $5.35 billion.
Meanwhile, in November Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $956.02 million, increasing by 14.7 percent year on year but down 11.12 percent over October, while imports of articles of iron or steel declined by 18.3 percent compared to November 2008 and were down 4.6 percent month on month, reaching $136.41 million.
In the January-November period of the current year, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $10.13 billion, down 54.7 percent year on year from $22.35 billion, while imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.36 billion, down 35.6 percent year on year from $2.11 billion.
