According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in 2009 Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $7.64 billion in value, decreasing by 48.9 percent year on year, while exports of articles of iron or steel declined by 20.7 percent compared to 2008, amounting to a value of $4.55 billion.
Meanwhile, in 2009, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $11.33 billion, down 51.1 percent year on year, while imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to a value of $1.53 billion, down 31.4 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in December 2009, Turkey's iron and steel exports totaled $570 million in value, increasing by 3.8 percent year on year and down 4.2 percent over November, while exports of articles of iron or steel rose by 12 percent compared to December 2008 and were up 7.6 percent month on month, amounting to a value of $437.75 million.
In December, Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.2 billion, increasing by 48.5 percent year on year and up 24.11 percent over November, while imports of articles of iron or steel rose by 41.5 percent compared to December 2008 and were up 23.65 percent month on month, reaching $168.67 million.
