According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in October this year Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, rose by 18.2 percent compared to the previous month and were up 18.5 percent compared to October 2011, totaling 513,038 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $358 million, increasing by 15 percent as compared to September this year and down 3.1 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the first 10 months of the current year Turkey's flat steel imports amounted to 4.25 million metric tons, decreasing three percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011.
In the first 10 months, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 885,000 metric tons, increasing by 12 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports in January-October this year was Russia with 780,000 metric tons, down 28.2 percent compared to the same period of 2011.
