Turkey’s crude steel production up by 23 percent in January-May

According to the information provided by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association, in May this year, Turkey's crude steel production improved by 14 percent year on year, amounting to 2.89 million metric tons. It also increased by 4.8 percent as compared to April reaching to the highest monthly production level of all times.
 
Meanwhile, in the January-May period of 2011, Turkey's total crude steel production increased to 13.6 million mt, up 23.4 percent from 11 million mt in the same period last year.
 
In the first five months of 2011, production of electric arc furnace plants increased to 10 million mt, up 33.4 percent year on year, while steel production using blast furnaces increased by 19 percent compared to the same period of 2010, amounting to 3.57 million mt.
