Turkey’s crude steel output up 19.2 percent in January-August

According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (DCUD), in August this year Turkey's crude steel production rose by 7.8 percent year on year reaching 2.8 million mt, while a 1.2 percent decrease was registered on month-on-month basis. In August, steel production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) increased by 8.2 percent, while production via blast furnaces (BFs) rose by 6.5 percent, both compared to August 2010.

On the other hand, in the first eight months of 2011, Turkey's crude steel output amounted to 22.1 million mt, increasing by 19.2 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

In the first eight monts of this year, Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 12.3 percent to 15.7 million mt, and its slab output climbed by 40.3 percent to 6.3 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. The share of steel billet in total crude steel production was 71.3 percent, while the share of slab was 28.7 percent.

Steel production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) increased by 24.8 percent in January-August 2011, while production via blast furnaces (BFs) rose by 5.7 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010. In January-August this year, EAFs accounted for 73.9 percent of total output, while BFs accounted for 26.1 percent.
