On the other hand, in the first nine months of 2011, Turkey's crude steel output amounted to 25.01 million mt, increasing by 18.9 percent as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
In the first nine months of this year, Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 12 percent to 17.8 million mt, and its slab output climbed by 40 percent to 7.2 million mt, both on year-on-year basis. The share of steel billet in total crude steel production was 71.2 percent, while the share of slab was 28.8 percent.

Steel production using electric arc furnaces increased by 23.6 percent in January-September 2011, while production via blast furnaces rose by 7.4 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of 2010. In January-September this year, EAFs accounted for 73.8 percent of total output, while BFs accounted for 26.2 percent.
