Turkey’s billet imports down 50.8 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's billet and bloom import volume decreased by 18.2 percent month on month to 50,335 mt, down by 70.7 percent year on year, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $29.1 million, down 24.4 percent month on month and down 62.7 percent year on year.

In the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's billet import volume amounted to 786,448 mt, falling by 50.8 percent, while the value of these imports decreased by 33.4 percent to $450.4 million, both year on year.

In the given period, Turkey imported 345,235 mt of billet and bloom from Russia, down 25.9 percent year on year, with Russia ranking as Turkey's leading billet and bloom import source, ahead of Ukraine which supplied 212,258 mt in the given period.
