The Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (CIB) has stated that it has focused on increasing steel exports to Central Europe, especially to Austria, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, which were recorded at very low levels in 2015 and also in the January-April period of the current year. The CIB stated that, in its analysis, it found that the main problem concerning steel exports to Central Europe is the high logistic costs involved.
The CIB stated that to find the alternative solutions to reduce logistic costs, with the cooperation of Europe’s biggest railway company Austria-based the Rail Cargo, owned by Austrian Federal Railways, it has held a conference on the advantages of railway transportation - the cheapest transportation mode - for Turkey’s steel exports to Europe.
CIB president Namık Ekinci stated that the CIB will continue its studies on logistic costs and alternative solutions with its member companies and added that they aim to increase Turkey’s steel exports to Europe, and, to support this aim, in the current year the CIB plans to organize trade missions to Central Europe.
