Trade between US and NAFTA partners swells in February

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) of the US Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) partners reached $66.5 billion in February-up 11.8 percent from February 2010.

Surface transportation, which includes freight movements by truck, rail, pipeline and mail, accounted for 86.4 of total US trade with Canada and Mexico, while 9.3 percent moved by vessel and 4.3 percent moved by air.

Specifically, surface transportation trade between the US and Canada totaled $40 billion in February, and surface transportation trade between the US and Mexico totaled $26.6 billion in February, up 10.1 percent and 14.5 percent year-over-year, respectively.
