Toyota, Nissan post record US vehicle sales

Japanese auto makers Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan Motor Co. saw record new vehicle sales in the US during February 2005. Toyota reported that its sales rose 11.1% year-on-year to 163'059 units thanks in part to the growing popularity of its hybrid Prius vehicle. Prius sales totaled 7'078 units in February. Nissan's auto sales jumped 10.1% to 82'412 units. Among other Japanese carmakers, Honda Motor Co. posted a 7.2% decline to 98'130 units, while Mazda Motor Corp. registered a 2% rise to 20'806 units. Meanwhile, overall vehicle sales in the US fell 1.9% year-on-year in February to 1.25 million units.
