US alloy steelmaker Timken Company (Timken) has announced the receipt of an order worth $16 million for the supply of Timken® APTM Class E bearings to be used on Indian Railways' passenger and freight trains.

Having supplied India's rail system for 20 years, Timken said the self-contained, pre-assembled and pre-lubricated Timken AP bearing design reduces maintenance costs, delivers more miles per bearing and improves fuel efficiency.

The state-owned Indian Railways is one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world and transports 18 million passengers and 2 million mt of freight each day.

Timken generated sales of $5.2 billion for FY 2007 and employs 25,000 people worldwide.
