Tangshan to eliminate 8.61 million mt of steel capacity in 2017

The municipal government of Tangshan in China has stated that 2017 is a crucial year for pushing forward capacity reduction and domestic supply-side reform and that it will move forward steadily in line with Chinese government policy. 

In particular, Tangshan municipal government stated that in 2017 it will eliminate 8.61 million mt of steelmaking capacity, 9.33 million mt of iron-making capacity and 1.10 million mt of coal capacity for 2017. “We will firmly prevent the revival of already eliminated excess capacity and forbid any new steel projects”, the Tangshan municipal government added.
