In order to achieve targets within the scope of the Chinese government's policy for energy savings and emission reductions, the government of Tangshan city has recently released an urgent notice regarding the production of thirty steel mills and 26 coking mills in the city in the coming four months. The steel mills referred to in the notice account for 90 percent of the total steel production in Tangshan and for nine percent of total steel production in China.

According to the notice, the aggregate output of the mills in question should be limited to under 3.56 million mt per month during the coming four months. This represents a reduction of 46.5 percent compared with the average monthly data recorded in the past seven months.
