According to the statistics released by the Taiwan Ministry of Finance, Taiwan's iron and steel imports in the first half of this year came to $6.02 billion, increasing by 108.8 percent, while its metal product imports, excluding machinery, rose 102.4 percent to $5.83 billion, both compared to the corresponding period of 2009.
Meanwhile, in the January-June period, Taiwans's iron and steel exports were up 39.1 percent, totaling $7.93 billion, while its metal product exports, excluding machinery, stood at $4.64 billion, climbing by 48.3 percent, both compared to the first six months of 2009.
On the other hand, in June Taiwan's iron and steel imports totaled $1.16 billion and its metal product imports amounted to $1.1 billion. The year-on-year increase rates were 89.7 percent and 36.9 percent respectively.
In June, Taiwan's iron and steel exports rose by 36.4 percent to $1.38 billion, while its metal product exports, excluding machinery, soared by 44 percent to $797.6 million, both compared to May 2009.
